IRVA News & Campaigns
Raising awareness, sharing stories, and driving change for safer roads.
Our Latest Activities and Advocacy Work
At IRVA, we actively campaign for safer roads, greater support for victims, and a fairer justice system in Ireland. Through national and international road safety events, public awareness campaigns, and community outreach, we share powerful stories and work alongside key stakeholders to prevent further tragedies.
This page features our latest news, campaign updates, and advocacy efforts — highlighting the ongoing work of our members, volunteers, and partners across Ireland and beyond.
IRVA Supports the AXA Roadsafe Roadshow 2025
As part of the AXA Roadsafe Roadshow events, IRVA is proud to highlight the powerful testimony of Leo Lieghio, who courageously shares the heartbreaking story of losing his daughter in a hit-and-run incident. The #AXARoadsafeRoadshow offers young people, many of whom are about to learn to drive, a raw and honest insight into the devastating consequences of dangerous driving.
This year alone, Leo has taken part in our Dublin event in early March, our Cork event at the end of March, and our Mayo event in early April. We are deeply grateful to volunteers like Leo, who not only share their personal stories but also engage meaningfully with young people across Ireland to promote safer roads for everyone.

UN Road Safety Week - A Focus on Safe Walking and Cycling
Members of the Road User Safety Forum are pictured with Minister of State for Transport, Seán Canney. IRVA Founder Donna Price was appointed by the Department of Transport to represent road traffic victims on this forum, which reviews and prioritises actions for Phase Two of Ireland’s Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030.
Also pictured are Donna Price and Leo Lieghio alongside Liz O’Donnell, former Chair of the Road Safety Authority (RSA). IRVA works in partnership with the RSA, with our Chair serving on its board from 2018 to 2024.
For UN Road Safety Week, IRVA collaborates with the UN Road Safety Collaboration, chaired by Dr Etienne Krug (WHO). This year’s global focus highlighted the need for safer walking and cycling to protect vulnerable road users.
Support and Guidance for Victims & Families
Our victim guide provides essential information for anyone affected by road traffic collisions, especially those grieving the loss of a loved one or coping with serious injury. Developed by victims in collaboration with road safety partners, it aims to fill a long-standing gap in support and help families understand and engage with the legal processes that follow such a tragedy. Please note this is a draft version, and we strongly recommend seeking independent legal advice if you have been impacted.
As a national organisation, IRVA offers free information, emotional support, and practical assistance to victims and their families. If you have been affected, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help you through every step of this difficult journey.
